Inappropriate, discriminatory and hurtful comments, racist, homophobic or sexist jokes, assaults, unwanted touching or insinuations that go beyond the boundaries of pleasant flirting have no place at Svensk Ungdom. At our events, there are two support persons who you can contact if any of the above occurs or if you feel unsafe.

The Swedish Youth of Finland’s events and activities should be inclusive and safe for everyone. To ensure this, we have compiled guidelines for a safer space that apply wherever we are present.
• We give each other space and make sure that everyone is heard. You can also claim the space yourself if needed.
• Respect that there are different opinions and listen to what others have to say. In this way, we create an accessible dialogue and a healthy culture of debate. Remember that in a debate, it is the opinions that fight, not the people.
• We don’t question differences, we let everyone be themselves.
• We don’t make assumptions based on someone’s appearance, behaviour, sexual orientation, language, culture, gender, nationality, religion, socio-economic background, health, age, or disability.
• We don’t use derogatory language or victimisation techniques. We avoid stereotypes – even in jokes.
• We always endeavour to use language that everyone understands and can follow. Sometimes this may mean using several languages at once or other such solutions. We avoid abbreviations.
• We care about each other and make sure that everyone enjoys our activities.
• We use support persons during our events who you can always contact regardless of the matter.
Rules for the activities of Swedish Youth of Finland

These rules apply in all activities and at the Swedish Youth of Finland’s events.
The rules exist to ensure that the activities are as pleasant and safe as possible for everyone. The rules also give the association the opportunity to intervene if someone does not behave in accordance with them.
Our values, policies and equality plan form the basis for these rules. These rules are intended as a guide to what the ethical line of the Swedish Youth of Finland is, in case of doubt, you can always contact the board. The guidelines do not under any circumstances replace current legislation, but are used as support and supplement where legislation does not clearly define codes of conduct.
There is zero tolerance for bullying and harassment in our activities. Participants in the Swedish Youth of Finland’s activities and events:
• follow our safer space guidelines
• do not act for their own gain or to obtain private favours
• do not speak in a way that is likely to mislead or cause harm
• respect confidentiality in internal matters
• always provide up-to-date contact details and act under their own name, not anonymously or under a pseudonym
• is responsible for the content of their websites, blogs and social media and considers the impact of their actions in different media channels on themselves or the organisation
• taking responsibility for their own behaviour even when under the influence of alcohol
• intervening if you see harassment or inappropriate behaviour.
What is harassment?
According to the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman (2022), harassment is defined as follows:
Harassment is discrimination prohibited by the Non-Discrimination Act. In the Act, harassment is defined as behaviour that has the purpose or effect of violating a person’s human dignity. Harassment means creating an atmosphere that is offensive, humiliating, threatening, hostile or aggressive towards the other person based on a prohibited ground of discrimination, such as sexual orientation, origin or disability.
The behaviour is interpreted broadly so that it can include, for example, emails, expressions, gestures or the production of inappropriate material, for example on the internet or other forms of communication. Behaviour that violates human dignity does not have to be directed at a specific person; it can also be directed at a specific group.
Reporting harassment
If you experience any form of harassment, you can contact one of the union’s harassment officers, the union president or the union secretary. You can also report harassment anonymously via the Swedish Youth website. For larger events, separate support persons are also selected for you to contact during the event.
Intervening in cases of harassment
All cases of harassment are dealt with in accordance with the Swedish Youth’s process for handling harassment and inappropriate behaviour in our activities. Persons who violate these rules may be sanctioned by the union’s management or the union’s board (such as removal from events, warning, curfew or suspension from activities).
